A sunny area facing Mont-Blanc
Les Contamines-Montjoie is a French commune located in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. From Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, you can access this small valley facing north-south, which is home to the village of Contamines-Montjoie, at the foot of the Col du Joly. The village is at an altitude of 1164 meters. The territory of the municipality is dominated by numerous peaks: - To the east: it is the high mountain area (the Miage domes (3673 m) and the Aiguille de Bionnassay (4052 m) located in the Mont-Blanc massif are made of ice all year round). - To the west: it is the winter sports resort that extends over the slopes of Mont Joly (2525 m) and allows you to reach the Hauteluce ski area via the Col du Joly. The summit of the slopes, located on the slopes of Aiguille Croche, offers a panorama of the Mont-Blanc massif, the Aravis range and the Beaufortain Valley. - To the south: it is a so-called Roman road that leads to the Col du Bonhomme which leads to the Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard. This path also leads to the Balme refuge, to the Col de la Fenêtre and to the Jovet lakes.
