À PROPOS DE L'ACTIVITÉ

Do you want to create your trail in powder snow? Do you want freedom and independence? Do you know how to ski downhill on the slopes? Backcountry skiing is made for you! Apart from the marked routes, the instructors of the UCPA snow school will help you discover the best off-road spots in the resorts.

Niveaux d'expertise possibles

Back-country skiing - Discovery

You have at least one 'Confirmed' level in skiing.
You want to discover off-road skiing. This course will introduce you to the use of safety equipment, learn techniques to make it easier to ski in all snow and terrain and make your first outings.

Backcountry skiing - All Mountain

At the “Confirmed” or “Expert” level alpine skiing, you have already done a discovery course or you have experience in off-track skiing. This course will allow you to be comfortable in all snow, to carry out varied itineraries and to master the handling of different DVAs and more generally to better understand all the dimensions of off-road activity.

Backcountry skiing - Expert

At the “Expert” alpine skiing level, you already have very good off-track experience (several courses) and you want intensive practice to refine your reading of the terrain, perfect your techniques to be comfortable in all snow, all slopes and to carry out larger outings.

Matériel fourni

Skis, boots and sticks, helmet, DVD, emergency bag.

Type de session

Most backcountry skiing courses include a majority of day trips to be able to take full advantage of the routes and adapt to the best snow conditions. However, some days may remain on the classic model (2.5 hours of practice in the morning and 2.5 hours in the afternoon).
Each session starts with a warm-up and ends with a debriefing. The content of each session is unique since it is systematically co-constructed beforehand between the instructor and the whole group.
At the end of the day, discussion times are planned at UCPA (internship presentation, equipment overview, environment, snow and avalanche, research exercise with DVA, etc.)

Securité

To evolve safely off-road, it is essential to know the mountain environment and the terrain perfectly. To do this, you will be supervised by qualified instructors or mountain guides who will make every effort to allow you to fully enjoy your hikes in optimal safety conditions. In the mountains, zero risk does not exist, but it is possible to reduce the risk considerably through appropriate behavior and knowledge. It is therefore extremely important to respect the instructions and decisions of these professionals. Our instructors or guides will train you in the use of safety equipment and will give you all the keys to mountain safety to gradually become autonomous in your practice.
