formalities administratives

Data for information purposes only for French nationals, and valid on 15/02/2024 (to be checked before your departure):

ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES:
...
- VALID PASSPORT valid for at least 6 months beyond the return date
- NEPALI VISA

It is up to you to get your visa:
=> WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU ESTABLISH YOUR VISA upon arrival in Kathmandu (the simplest solution).
In this case, we advise you to apply for a visa in advance online on the following site (Online Service) “visa application on arrival”: https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np/on-arrival/IO01
This procedure (optional) must be done a maximum of 14 days before your departure (validity period of the receipt of this online visa pre-application). Your pre-application receipt must be presented upon arrival, along with your passport and a copy of your passport, at the visa office. Payment is made on site when the visa is issued.

=> It is also possible to issue your visa at the Nepalese embassy in your country of residence, BUT WE DO NOT RECOMMEND IT, because we will not be able to provide you with your trekking permit more than 10 days before your departure, the deadline for establishing your visa before departure will then be too tight.

Visa cost:
- 30 USD or the equivalent in euros (to be paid in cash) for a maximum validity of 15 days.
- 50 USD or the equivalent in euros (to be paid in cash) for a maximum validity of 30 days

ATTENTION: TREK PERMIT: to allow us to establish your trekking permit in Nepal, please send the scan of the first page of your passport (page with the photo) to the following email address: reservation@basecamptrek.com

Expect:
> 2 identity photos (4 photos if you participate in the Manaslu program).
> Travelers are asked by the Nepalese immigration services to bring 200 dollars or the equivalent in euros in cash to pay for their visas upon arrival (the Visa price for a 15-day program is indeed 30 USD), as the online payment system generates long queues.

Level/Physical Intensity: ****

Technical mountaineering level 2

...
Long and magnificent trekking at high altitude, with ascent to a glacier summit of more than 6000 meters after 10 days of gradual acclimatization.
This program is reserved for people who already have a good command of the basics of mountaineering: cramponing all points and forwards, rope walking, rope maneuvers, etc.
It is essential to have completed one or more mountaineering courses (for example at UCPA, “introduction to mountaineering” courses), and it is of course mandatory to be in very good health and in excellent physical condition, taking into account the effort to be made at high altitude.
For the trek itself, you must be able to walk 5 to 7 hours a day at a slow pace, on well-marked trails but also on moraines (rock debris brought by glaciers) and in scree. Since the luggage is carried by porters, you will only carry the things for the day in your backpack.

To prepare for this ascent, we recommend that you follow a 4-day “Break initiation expedition and high-altitude trek” course, organized at the UCPA center in Chamonix in the Mont Blanc massif. On the program, technical sessions (cramponing, mooring, safety maneuvers) and bivouac in a tent on the glacier.

High altitude: It is absolutely essential to check that you have no contraindications to a prolonged stay at high altitude (between 4000 and 6000 m). Do not leave without consulting a doctor, especially if your health condition requires regular treatment.
We strongly advise you to follow a specialized medical consultation, in order to assess your ability to adapt to altitude, and to benefit from personalized advice.
These consultations are organized by ARPE (association for Research in Environmental Physiology).

In the Paris region: Hôpital Avicenne, 93009 BOBIGNY, Tel. 01 48 95 58 32
There are about fifteen relays in provincial hospitals.
All contacts on the ARPE website: www.arpealtitude.org
