SPOT

The Petra site

Discover the pink city of the desert

Located in the south of Jordan, in a mountain range, Petra is one of the jewels of the country, often cited as the 8th wonder of the world. Founded in the 8th century BC, it took on all its splendor from the 6th century; it was then a must on the Silk and Spice Road. The city was built into the cliffs, sometimes 80m high, the facades of the buildings being dug into the rock. Although most of the houses were destroyed, there are still many sites, most of them religious or funerary, that are absolutely breathtaking. The particular color of the rock has earned the city its nickname of “Vermeille City”.
