SPOT
The 7 Rila Lakes
Discover the crystal-clear waters of the Rila Lakes
The Rila is a mountain range in southwest Bulgaria. At the foot of one of its peaks, Mount Damga, there are seven tiered glacial lakes, connected to each other by small streams. The best way to admire them is to arrive from the top, starting from the Rila Monastery. Each has been named according to its size or shape. The first, “the tear” is the smallest, then comes the “eye”, which is the deepest with its 37.5m, “the Twin” is at the bottom of a circus. Everyone's location in the heart of the mountain makes their discovery a spectacle every time.
