SPOT

Halong Bay

The Bay of Two Thousand Wonders

Halong Bay (or Halong Bay) is one of the most famous landscapes in Asia. Composed of 1200 rocky peaks that jut out of the turquoise water, Halong Bay is the largest marine karst in the world. Originally an underwater sedimentary plateau and then dried up, erosion dissolved the softest rocks and dug numerous caves in the remaining islets.

Important information

Level/Physical Intensity **
This trip is for anyone in good health who wants to make a small physical effort to discover magnificent landscapes and traditional civilization.
...
Trek: no technical difficulties, you just need to feel able to walk 4 to 5 hours a day in hilly terrain with a backpack with your personal belongings for 3 days of trekking, the rest of your luggage remaining stored in the vehicle. Carriers take care of the water and the food.
NB: depending on the season, some passages that are sometimes steep can be slippery and muddy, and increase the difficulty of the program somewhat. The heat of the forest may seem overwhelming to some.

Sea kayaking: previous experience is not necessary but your ability to handle the paddle acquired during a weekend or an internship will be a plus. It is of course essential to know how to swim at least 25 m and to be able to put your head under water (ministerial decree of 4 May 1995). A certificate may be requested upon arrival.

Electricity
Round sockets type French (North of the country), and flat American type sockets (South of the country), provide a specific adapter.

NB: you are going to participate in an “adventure” program, a travel formula that is totally different from conventional tourist circuits: the discomfort, the unexpected, the health conditions, which we may encounter, suppose everyone has a good spirit of tolerance and a taste for adventure.
Through your active and positive participation, you will contribute to the cohesion and good understanding of the group, which is a guarantee of the success of the trip.

Information valid for French nationals on 24/05/2023 (and to be checked before your departure):

Covid 19 information:
The situation of the COVID epidemic in Vietnam has normalized. The virus is circulating but the restrictive measures are no longer in force. In the event of symptoms, it is nevertheless advisable to be tested and, in the event of a positive result, to isolate yourself.
The presentation of test results for COVID-19 is no longer required upon arrival on Vietnamese territory.

Vaccinations: no vaccination is mandatory in Vietnam.
However, we strongly recommend that you be up to date with standard vaccinations: diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, including rubella, mumps and measles in children. Vaccinations against tuberculosis, typhoid fever, and hepatitis A and B are also recommended.
Japanese encephalitis: this disease, which only exists in Asia, is transmitted by mosquitoes, against which it is essential to protect yourself. As part of a tourist trip, vaccination against Japanese encephalitis is not routinely recommended. Consult your doctor or an international vaccination center.

Malaria: it is recommended to take antimalarial treatment (consult your doctor or the Pasteur Institute one month before departure).
Provide personal protection against mosquito bites, which will prevent you from other viral diseases transmitted by mosquitoes (dengue, chikungunya and zika).

Water: You must be very vigilant about water: never drink water in the middle of nature, or tap water in the city (important risk: severe “tourist” in the most favorable case). You should drink boiled or treated water, tea, or drinks in closed bottles. A few basic hygiene rules will save you a lot of inconvenience: always wash your hands with soap before eating.

Sun: you are in the tropics. Do not forget to protect your skin from the sun's rays. Keep a T-shirt, or a long-sleeved sweatshirt, because you would get sunburned without realizing it.
