SPOT
The Notre-Dame-de-Lure chapel
A haven of peace in the heart of the Lure forest
In the heart of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, between Sisteron and Forcalquier, the forest of the Lure mountain extends over the town of Saint-Étienne-les-Orgues. At its top, stands the chapel of the Notre-Dame-de-Lure abbey. This building, which rises to 1,200 m, was founded in the 12th century. After numerous abandonments, destructions and reconstructions, the chapel was classified as a historical monument in 1980. It is a place of pilgrimage and beautiful hiking, horseback riding or cycling. It is reached by the D113, then by a path crossing a beech forest.
