A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE TRIP
Pure sport/You have already done several mountaineering trips, you have reached a level of autonomy in basic snow and rock techniques with a 5c level in mind outside which allows you to go further in your progress.
The objective of this trip is to make you confident in the safety techniques to be used in glacial, mixed or rocky terrain and to get you to ask yourself the right questions in your approach to the mountain.
You will be able to evolve in an “autonomous” rope, responsible for your safety and that of your rope partner, under the control of a high mountain guide.
5 supervised days - 1 night in a refuge
The UCPA Chamonix is a high mountain mountaineering and climbing school. Our objective is to bring participants to a controlled and responsible practice. Each at their own level, we aim for autonomy. Our stays are therefore organized around learning techniques and evolutions in “autonomous ropes” where everyone learns to ensure their safety and that of their rope companion, under the guidance and advice of a high-mountain guide or a state climbing certificate.

During your stay
Monday - You go into the field to do a “school” session in rock or varied terrain or snow or ice in order to review basic skills.
During this day, the group, led by the guide, will define an internship project according to mountain conditions, weather, levels and expectations of each person. This project will include two or 3 races* as objectives.
Throughout the course, depending on the levels, in preparation and during the races, we will discuss various themes:
- rock and varied terrain with a reminder of the fundamentals, the various relays (sports site and TA), abseiling pose, insurance in movement, climbing in the lead, installation of protections, escape, evolutions in all terrain, etc.
- snow and ice: evolutions without studs, complex evolutions with studs, insurance in movement, moorings, rescue, etc.
- analysis and decision, weather, race preparation, race planning, mapping and orientation, race management and decision making.
Tuesday - generally devoted to a “school” session or an application race, to prepare for the other races envisaged.
Wednesday to Friday - after adjusting the objectives according to the conditions and the level of the group, we are going to do some races. For the day or over 2 days with ascent and night in a refuge. In order to progress towards autonomy, you will be involved in the preparation and conduct of these races.
At the end of this internship, you have the keys to consider an autonomous practice in itineraries and conditions adapted to your level.
The course of this program is given for information purposes only.
It may undergo modifications or adjustments, depending on technical criteria, safety requirements or the climatic conditions of the moment. In this case, only those responsible for UCPA supervision are authorized to take the necessary decision (s).
It can also be adapted according to the technical and physical level of the participants.

The purpose of this note is to present to you the form of mountaineering practice that we offer during our various mountaineering or climbing trips in high mountains.
UCPA is a mountaineering and high mountain school. Our objective is to bring participants to a controlled and responsible practice of mountaineering, each at their own level, during and after the stay.
For this, our stays are organized around learning the techniques and principles of evolution in the mountains.
This approach involves evolutions in “autonomous” teams where the trainee-participants implement safety techniques, learned beforehand. The rope then evolves without being systematically connected to a guide by a rope. These evolutions into “autonomous” teams are carried out under the guidance of the guide, which determines the modalities of these evolutions according to the level of the trainee-participants and the conditions in the field.
The trainee-participant in a mountaineering or climbing trip in high mountains undertakes to accept the form of instruction offered and certifies having read this information.
