This morning, departure by private vehicle to Siem Reap (5 to 6 hours drive).
...
Welcome and meeting with our guide. Check-in at the hotel and lunch in town. Departure by bike, for the first day of discovering the main temples of Angkor Wat, which we reach by small paths through the forest. Certainly the most beautiful way to visit the temples. 30 km by bike (2-3 hours of biking on dirt roads and paved roads). We will be back in town by bike. Dinner in town and overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Angkor Thom - royal city
Departure quite early (by vehicle) to the gates of the great royal city of Angkor Thom, whose famous Bayon Temple is located in the center of this three-kilometer wall. This temple is famous for its monumental towers decorated with sculpted faces, representing deities or Khmer kings. We travel on foot and by bike, which allows us to discover temples hidden in the forest. Continue the visit in the direction of Baphoun, the Royal Palace and the Elephant Terrace. A last isolated temple: Wat Tep Pranom. After lunch, departure to the Temple of Preah Khan, Ta Nei and then Ta Phrom through the forest. Magnificent temple where nature takes its place again. The cheese trees seem to swallow the stones of the temple. This is where the Tomb Raider movie was shot. Return to Siem Reap by vehicle. Night at the hotel. (10-20km bike ride).

Day 5: The sacred mountain of Phnom Kulen and mountain biking to Anlong Thom village
Drive by minivan to Phnom Kulen National Park (1h30). For the most daring, start by mountain bike on laterite trails through the forest to a plateau located 400m away (altitude difference +380m). Possibility to swim in the river and under a waterfall. The mountain bike itinerary continues on more technical terrain (this part by bike can be done on foot), between laterite trails, sandy parts and forest trails. Discover by bike the Pre-Angkorian temples of the 9th century hidden in the jungle. Arrival at the village of Anlong Thom, meet your hosts and night at the inhabitant's house in a wooden house on stilts. 3 hours of mountain biking.

Day 6: from Anlong Thom to Kulen basecamp (eco-camp) by mountain bike
Second day of mountain biking to another village, with a stop to discover local crafts; opportunity to learn how to weave mats. Continue by bike on forest trails to reach the summit of Phnom Kulen National Park (500m). Night in a bivouac at the top of the mountain in an ecolodge with its panoramic view of the mountain and the plain. Around 2 hours of mountain biking.

Day 7: Kulen basecamp - Mountain biking around Ta Penh and Roluos
In the morning, before breakfast, bird watching with our binoculars from the exceptional site of our camp. Breakfast then departure by mountain bike on small trails on the mountainside, and discovery of a cave for hermits with ancient Khmer inscriptions. We go back down the mountain to the village of Ta Penh, and enjoy the panorama offered at Wat Tchas. Transfer by road to the plain (1 hour). In the afternoon, we get on our bikes again on country trails to discover the rural world. Arrival at the village of Roluos, visit the village and night at the inhabitant's house. 2.5 hours by bike.

Day 8: Tonle Sap Lake - Kampong Khleang Village - Phnom Penh
Drive to Tonlé Sap Lake and the village of Kampong Khleang. We embark on a traditional wooden boat for a short cruise on the lake. Discover life in lake villages, the daily life of fishermen and their fishing techniques. After our navigation (about 1 hour), we meet the mainland and our driver and take the road to Phnom Penh in a private vehicle. Arrival in the early afternoon (5-6 hours drive). Stroll along the quays, without missing a short trip to the Central Market. Free dinner. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9: Cardamom Region
This morning, we leave Phnom Penh in the direction of the city of Tatai (5 hours drive). After 25 minutes by boat, arrival at our lodge. Settle in bungalows by the river and relax. Possibility to explore the river by kayak if you wish and if the weather permits. Night in a bungalow.

Day 10: Hiking in the Cardamom Forest
Departure for a 30-minute boat trip on the Tatai River. After disembarking, we begin our guided hike through the cardamom forest to a nearby lake. Opportunity to take a refreshing bath in this natural environment. Your guide introduces you to the local flora and fauna, giving you an overview of the region's rich biodiversity. Picnic lunch surrounded by nature, then stroll in the forest to the boat that takes us back to the lodge. Night in a bungalow by the river, surrounded by the sounds of nature. (1 hour boat trip and 3 hours walk).

Day 11: The Gulf of Siam coast
Morning transfer to Kampot (3 to 4 hours drive), a river city with beautiful colonial architecture, and renowned for its rice fields and pepper production. Installation in the bungalows where we spend the night in Kampot, on the banks of the river. In the afternoon, a trip on the Kampot river in a fishing boat (1h30), then a short kayak trip (1h) on the river and discovery of a small village.

Day 12: Biking to Kampot
Half-day biking to discover rural life. We travel through the Cambodian countryside through rice fields with a stop at the pagoda. We drop off the bikes to visit a pepper farm, with tasting on site. Return to Kampot to explore the neighborhoods of the old colonial city before returning to our bungalow by the river. Night in a bungalow.

Day 13: Phnom Penh
Departure by private vehicle to Phnom Penh (150km, about 2.5 hours drive). Discover the Cambodian capital, nicknamed “the pearl of Southeast Asia” during the colonial era. We visit the National Museum, the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. Overnight at the hotel.

SPOT

Angkor Temples

The heritage of Khmer civilization

The archaeological site of Angkor, in the heart of the tropical forest, contains exceptionally rich remains of the Khmer empire. Extending over 400 km2, the site has numerous temples, hydraulic structures and communication routes. The site is so vast that it is impossible to visit it all in one day. Among the most famous buildings is Angkor Wat, built by King Suryavarman in the 12th century. It is the symbol of the power of the Khmer civilization, at a time when it dominated the Indochinese peninsula. From the top of Angkor Wat, the view is splendid over the entire archaeological site of Angkor.

Important information

Level/Physical Intensity **

Hiking: you spend 3 days independently in the region of the sacred mountain of Phom Kulen, your bag containing your belongings for 3 days (D5 to D7) is delivered by the assistance vehicle (you pick up your big travel bag at the end of the day on D7).
...
So you only carry your things for the day, as during the rest of the trip. Hiking is easy, with slight differences in altitude, but it is sometimes hot in Cambodia!

Bicycle: the bikes used are mountain bikes, more robust and adapted to the terrain than simple hybrid bikes. However, the itinerary uses motorable paths without technical passages, except for day 5 when it will sometimes be necessary to get off the bike. Mountain biking experience is not required. However, your ability to use the derailleur or to negotiate hills and descents, acquired during a weekend or an internship, will allow you to get the most out of your trip. The stages are on average 30 to 40 km maximum, without major differences in altitude. All collective and individual equipment as well as spare parts for the bike are transported by the assistance vehicle that we will meet again in the evening. You will therefore only carry, in a small backpack, the essentials for the day (lunch, light effects, water bottle, camera, i.e. 2 or 3 kg).

Rental of an electric mountain bike (or E-bike) in the Siem Reap region: you can rent an electric mountain bike subject to availability, for a rate of 25 USD per day and per person (to be paid on site). Request to be made to the incoming agency by email at least 10 days before your departure, email address indicated in the “your contact” section. Do not hesitate to contact them if you want more information about bikes.
Thanks to electric assistance, bike tours become easier for everyone. Our E-Bike provides assistance that allows you to pedal longer distances, and with less effort on difficult and uphill roads. If you don't bike regularly, or lack training, electric assistance allows you to easily follow the group.

Electricity: 220 Volts, adapter not necessary.

NB: you are going to participate in an “adventure” program, a travel formula that is totally different from conventional tourist circuits: the discomfort, the unexpected, the health conditions, which we may encounter, suppose everyone has a good spirit of tolerance and a taste for adventure.
Through your active and positive participation, you will contribute to the cohesion and good understanding of the group, which is a guarantee of the success of the trip.

Health and formalities

Information valid for French nationals on 15/10/2023 (and to be checked before your departure):

COVID 19 HEALTH CONDITIONS:
...
> On October 3, 2022, the Cambodian authorities lifted the requirement to present proof of vaccination against Covid-19 when entering the country, whether at air, land or sea borders.

> Cambodian territory is therefore also allowed to unvaccinated people without the obligation to test upon arrival.

> Since health costs in Cambodia are very high, whether or not they are linked to Covid-19 contamination, it is recommended to make sure you have medical insurance that covers the entire stay.

Provisions in force on Cambodian territory:
> The Cambodian authorities strongly recommend, without making these measures mandatory, wearing a mask in busy areas, washing your hands regularly, and maintaining a social distance of 1.5 meters.

> In the event of an increase in the spread of the Covid-19 virus and its variants, the Cambodian government will regularly adapt health conditions and may decide on new restrictions without notice. It is recommended to stay informed by regularly consulting the website of the French Embassy in Cambodia:
https://kh.ambafrance.org/Situation-au-Cambodge-1-La-situation

----------------------------------------

Vaccinations: no vaccination is mandatory in Cambodia (except for the one against Covid). However, we strongly recommend that you be up to date with standard vaccinations: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, typhoid fever, hepatitis A and B.
Japanese encephalitis: this disease, which only exists in Asia, is transmitted by mosquitoes, against which it is essential to protect yourself. As part of a tourist trip, vaccination against Japanese encephalitis is not routinely recommended. Consult your doctor or an international vaccination center.

Malaria: it is essential to follow appropriate antimalarial treatment (consult your doctor or the Pasteur Institute one month before departure).
Provide personal protection against mosquito bites, which will prevent you from other viral diseases transmitted by mosquitoes (dengue, chikungunya and zika).

Water: you have to be very careful about water. Never drink water in nature, or tap water in the city (significant risk: severe “tourist” in the most favorable case). You should drink tea or drinks in closed bottles. A few basic hygiene rules will avoid a lot of inconveniences: always wash your hands with soap before eating.

Sun: you are in the tropics. Do not forget to protect your skin from the sun's rays. Keep a T-shirt, or a long-sleeved sweatshirt, because you would get sunburned without realizing it.

Personal pharmacy recommended:
Your current medications
Pain medication (paracetamol type)
Antispasmodic (Spasfon type)
Antiseptic (Betadine type)
Anti-inflammatory
Antimalarial
Arnica in capsules or in stick
Bands, plasters and elastoplastic
Water purifying tablets (micropur type) according to your destination
Antiseptic eye drops
Anti-diarrheal
Tire tick
Sterile pads
Tweezers, scissors, safety pins

There is no current antibiotic in the UCPA pharmacy, each participant must bring, if they wish, their own treatment according to their tolerance.

Important
No additional travel insurance is included in your registration.
We remind you that it is essential that you have at least a “medical care abroad” guarantee and a “repatriation” guarantee including “search and rescue costs”.
We advise you to consult the General Insurance Conditions pages on our website:
ucpa-vacances.com/insurances/
Whatever your insurance, do not forget to take the necessary information with you during your trip abroad: name and contact details (telephone, email) of your assistance company and the number of the contract taken out.
This information will be requested upon arrival by our local correspondent.
