Beyond all the cliches, the highlands of Tanzania are “cold places where the sun is hot”. Altitude is a determining factor in temperature. This trip takes place in regions whose altitude ranges from 1300 to 5800 m and it is obvious that the temperatures will be very different for the same time of the year from one place to another. An extreme temperature range is another characteristic of the climate on Kilimanjaro. Because if the nights are cold (frost possible), the arrival of the sun in the early morning immediately brings a rapid rise in temperatures... Rainfall is always to be feared throughout the year, especially at Kilimanjaro, so be sure to bring a rain cape. There are two rainy seasons (November, December) and (March, April, May). The most favorable times to climb Kilimanjaro are during the dry seasons in January and February, or from June to October. Average temperatures in °C (Minima/Maxima): Arusha (altitude 1400 meters): Oct. 11/20 Nov. 12/19 Dec. 13/18 Jan. 11/15 Mar. 12/16 Apr. 13/18 May 13/16 June 13/18 May 13/16 June 10/13 June 10/13 July 10/13 July 10/13 Jul 10/15 July 10/15 August 11/20 August 11/20 Sept. 10/18 At the summit of Kilimanjaro, count about 25°C lower than in Arusha (it can be -15°C). Plan your equipment accordingly.
