Thanks to the advice of our experienced instructors, improve your skiing technique to be able to evolve on all types of snow: avalanche research training (use of DVA (avalanche victim detector)/shovel/probe), knowledge and reading of snow and choice of routes.
During 9 supervised sessions, you work on all areas of the Chamonix Valley, world renowned for its off-road trails. You start on local off-road trails with technical feedback on the track and you finish on larger off-road routes. Located in the village resort of Argentière, a 5-minute walk from the emblematic Grands-Montets ski area (3200 m), our UCPA sports village offers you all its know-how as an off-road specialist.

The program

Day by day

Day of arrival

Reception in the morning from 8:30am.
Breakfast (8:30am to 10:00am), accommodation (in the morning, you have a secure room available to leave your luggage), provision of equipment and your ski pass valid from the first day of the course.

For the first day, practical at your convenience in autonomy, our teams provide you with all the information you need to get your stay in the snow off the right foot: safety tips, weather information, snow conditions, snow conditions, trail information.

The advice of the sports village: we suggest that you arrive before 13:00 to enjoy your first day of vacation and start sliding.

In the evening, during the Welcome Time and over a welcome drink, the UCPA staff gives you all the information concerning UCPA, life in the sports village, the supervised sessions that start the next day: constitution of groups, appointment times, highlights of the week.
For off-road courses and ski tours, quick information on safety.

If you purchased the “arrival the day before” option, we welcome you between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. If you plan to arrive after 8 pm, please contact the sports village (email argentiere@ucpa.asso.fr or phone) so that we can send you the code for the front door. You will then find an envelope with your name and directions to find your room. Dinner is served until 20:30.

During your stay

Monday to Friday, around 23 hours of supervision, in the form of continuous days, with cold meals on the slopes.

The emphasis is on the gradual realization of larger itineraries alternating with technical sessions: improvement and technical adaptation to the different terrain (snow in the forest, steeper slope) and discovery of the mountain environment (transformation of the snow, choice of routes and orientations).

The course of this program is indicative.
It may undergo modifications or adjustments, depending on technical or organizational criteria, security requirements or the climatic conditions of the moment. In this case, only those responsible for UCPA supervision are authorized to take the necessary decision (s).
It can also be adapted according to the technical and physical level of the participants, according to the state of fitness of the participants.

Make sure you check the level required for the internship. If you do not have the required level, we will not always be able to offer you another program.

Last day

After a last unsupervised morning, return of the equipment on Saturday before 12 noon.
Check-out of the room no later than 13:00.

Chamonix Valley ski area

A ski area at the foot of Mont Blanc

Unlike ski areas, Chamonix is a high-altitude town surrounded by several ski areas (Tour/Vallorcine, Lognan/Les Grands Montets, La Flegère/Le Brévent). They allow for varied skiing thanks to the omnipresence of the glaciers and Mont Blanc. The valley offers 160 km of trails for all levels culminating at an altitude of 3800 m. They are served by 63 ski lifts, as well as an important off-road area.
