SPOT
François Leguat turtle reserve
To find the landscapes of 300 years ago
The François Leguat Giant Tortoise and Cave Reserve is located on Rodrigues Island, off the east coast of Madagascar and Mauritius. The idea of the Reserve was to restore the landscape of Rodrigues before colonization and its disastrous consequences on the environment. More than 500 turtles were introduced into the Reserve between 2006 and 2007. The basements of the Reserve also contain a network of caves and natural caverns, the largest of which is 500 meters long.
